Weather Forecast for Landscape Photography

Why it is different to common weather forecasts

In landscape photography, we are not interested in common weather data. On the one hand we want to get dramatic clouds, on the other one we want to get a light channel through. Spectacular light is the result. And that is predictable. But not with common weather apps!

Landscape Photographers Are Often Confused by Points!

If you check the weather with any common weather app, you just get very common predictions like rain, amount of clouds in different layers, and wind. But that just for a specific point, it doesn't consider a light ray breaking through, hundrets of kilometers away, a rainbow, cloud inversions, alpenglow, fireskies, and so on. But especially weather phenomena like that lead to world class photos.

There are two ways to predict weather phenomena like that:

Way 1) Learn How to Make Your Own Weather Forecasts

  • light rays breaking through
  • golden clouds
  • red sky
  • orange horizon stripe
  • belt of venus
  • rainbows
  • hoarfrost
  • april weather (sun & rain)
  • interactions between light and shadow
  • seascape weather (spectacular waves, monster waves, or flat sea)
  • astrophotography phenomena (aurora, milky way, meteor showers)

... just to address some.
